What are You Waiting For?

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. — Mark Twain

Mark Twain also said: “Dance like nobody’s watching; love like you’ve never been hurt. Sing like nobody’s listening; live like it’s heaven on earth.”

What would you do if money was no object? What would you do if you could do anything you wanted?

It’s nothing we haven’t heard before. We’re inundated with books and articles urging us to slow down, speed up, concentrate on the singular, multi-task to infinity, live now, live later and how to.

When it comes down to it, most of us have normal lives. We feed the cat, take out the trash, do the laundry, run errands. We work too much. Sometimes something makes its way into our consciousness — a story of a personal victory, someone defying the odds to do something spectacular, or a friend who just met a long term goal.

Briefly we wake up. And wonder, where are those big dreams? Are we still pursuing them? What have we done to push those dreams forward lately?

What’s the one thing you’ve always really wanted to do? Why haven’t you done it yet?
